Memory Verse: John 1:23 “He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.”
The Word was in the beginning of creation with God. He not only dwelt with God but he Himself was God. All things were made by the Word. In the Word was life. In the Word there is no darkness. In the natural, a word is a unit of speech by which we express ourselves. In the spiritual, the Word became a person from the Godhead to express the love of God. At the appointed time, God manifested the Word as the Son of God. (John 1:1-5; Romans 8:30)
John witnessed the true Light. Jesus is the true Light. In the natural, when we turn on the light we can see. In the spiritual, Jesus is the Light who will show us our sins. When we walk in the light, our lives are uncovered. But because the world was full of darkness, they did not receive the light. In the spiritual, darkness is sin. (John 1:6-14; 3:19-21)
When the servants of God remain faithful to God’s will, the calling of his/her life will be manifested. The manifestation of being anointed is the revealing of the believer’s calling in the service of the Lord, what he/she is ordained to do to build God’s kingdom.
God has called men and women to serve in the ministry. By his divine wisdom many were predestined to serve before they were born. Of the many men and women who were predestined to fulfill a calling was John the Baptist. He was the son of Zachariah and Elizabeth. While he was yet in the womb of Elizabeth, the Holy Ghost leaped when he heard the voice of Mary the mother of Jesus. John was 6 months older than Jesus. He worshipped God at a very young age. (Luke 1:36-44; II Timothy 2:19)
John was the forerunner of Christ. He witnessed how the Light will come and he will give power to become the sons of God to those that believed. John was familiar with the word. John gave testimony that Christ would be preferred; Christ would be greater than he was. He testified that the law was given by Moses. It commanded men to obey and condemned them to death if they failed to do so. The law instructed men what was wrong, but they had no power to do right. Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. Grace is God’s unmerited favor. Christ is truth because he is honest and just. Only he can be full of grace and truth. (John 1:15-18; 1 Timothy 3:16)
John came to introduce the world to Jesus. He did not come to be famous. He is a very good example of being an humble servant of God. The Jews and those around questioned if he was the one. They were expecting Elijah. He responded that he was not the one. John spoke as one that had holy ghost power. He was the voice crying in the wilderness as prophesied in Isaiah 40:3, “Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.” Wilderness is symbolic of Israel. They had become dried and disobedient to God. John baptized with water for the remission of sins. It was an outward symbol of an inward change. He was anointed to tell Israel, that the Savior was coming. It was the hope of God that men would prepare themselves for his entrance. God have always sent messengers to announce great events in the lives of his people. But many did not and will not listen. People have a false expectation of who Christ is. In these last days in which we are called to proclaim salvation in the name of Jesus, a false expectation still remains. (John 1:19-26; Matthew 24:23-24)
John boldly testified that “one coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.” It was the custom for the servant to untie his master’s shoe. John was anointed to tell about the Word of Life, yet he felt unworthy. He refused to take any attention from Christ. (John 1:27-28)
The next day when John saw Christ coming he announced (1) who Christ was “Behold the Lamb of God” and (2) his mission “which taketh away the sin of the world.” He was born to introduce our Savior to the world. He knew Jesus, but he did not know until that time that he was the Son God, the Savior of the world. What a joy to fulfill your anointing! (John 1:29; II Timothy 1:8-12)
John saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove and it rested on Jesus. Jesus came to baptize with the Holy Ghost, which gives us power to repent. What the law could not do in that it was weak, Jesus can do. We cannot change our ways on our own strength and mind to do. We need holy ghost power to help us. (Romans 8:3)
In conclusion, the manifestation of being anointed is a powerful work of God. Just to know that he has a plan for our life. Just to know that we are the apple of his eye. When we remain faithful to God, we are working within the realm of our manifestation. (Psalm 17:8; Romans 12:1-8)
