Scripture: John 14:1-7
After Jesus had told his disciples that he was to glorify his father, he gave them words of encouragement. He told them “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” In other words, don’t worry but believe. While with the disciples, Jesus ministered to the poor and the rich. He healed the blind, lame, and deaf. He taught and lived one of the central messages of the bible, which is love.
The disciples were given the promise that they will see Christ again. He had to die to make forgiveness of sins and eternal life possible for them and for the world. The disciples spent much time with Christ, yet they did not understand who Christ was completely.
When Jesus said “and the way ye know.” Thomas asked how can we know the way. Jesus said, that he is the way. The way is not in reference to direction. The way is not keeping the commandments. The way is not even living the golden rule, “love thy neighbor as thyself”. The way came in the life of a person, Jesus.
Jesus is the way because in him we are saved. He was born to die for the sins of the world. He became the perfect sacrificial lamb for the world. No longer is the blood of animals required for an atonement for sin. His death and resurrection was the will of God. It is through Christ we will enter into the heavenly kingdom. It is important that we know the way. Many may know Jesus on the surface. But it is essential that we take time to know Jesus, who is the way, everyday. When we accept him as our savior, we include him in our day to day experience. We trust in his saving power to forgive us for our sins. He forgives us for our ways and then in him only can we live a life that is pleasing to our heavenly Father. Only in Jesus, can we be forgiven. Only in Jesus, can we have peace with God. We must accept the way that God has willed.
The disciples, later known as the Apostles, did know the way. After the death of Christ, they were anointed with the Holy Spirit. All teachings of Christ were revealed to them with understanding. They became leaders of the gospel of Christ. They taught men and women that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. We can never know enough about our Savior. Thank God that he gives us the privilege every day and in every situation to know him.
Any way outside of Christ is not the true way to heaven. In life there are many ways to get places. There are many ways to achieve goals. But there is only one way to make it to heaven. There is only one way to be saved. Jesus is the Way. Do You Know The Way?
