I Samuel 17:32; Acts 13:22
Many people enjoy learning, studying, and teaching about King David. His degree of faith, devotion, and love for God remains an example in our relationship with God. His faith was genuine and the best part of all, God knew it. “I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfill all my will.”
David knew the power of God when he told Saul that he would fight the Philistine Goliath. Goliath was of a big stature and a champion among his people. Yet, David had no fear of him. Just as David, there are times when we have to face the giants in our lives. A giant is something that threatens your freedom, physically and/or mentally. Giants come in all ways. It is not always a person. Alcohol, drugs, and even self-denial are giants. Giants are those things that draw negative influence.
David, one of no great stature, challenged to fight Goliath. Goliath was a giant warrior, armed with heavy war attire. Saul gave David the war attire to wear. But David was not comfortable with it because he had not proved it. He was familiar with stones and slings, being one who worked in the field. He defeated the giant not on his own strength, but in the strength of the God whom he loved, with one stone sling. In David, we see that we are not alone to face our giants. He claimed the victory before he even won it.
When we exercise our faith, we show that nothing or no one is greater than our God. Identify your giants, those things that threaten your freedom, that will put you in bondage. Christ died to make us all free from bondage. “…be not entangled with the yoke of bondage.” Use your weapon of prayer. Prayer keeps you connected to God who will never lose a battle.
