Sermon Take Away: “In Fellowship With God”

From the very beginning of creation, God the Father has always wanted to be with his people. We are fearfully and wonderfully made in his image for his glory. The conception of sin had placed a barrier between him and his people. But because his love surpasses the fall of man, he made a way that we can still have fellowship with him.

The Apostle John is highly esteemed for his love of God. He walked, talked, and learned in the presence of Jesus Christ. In his epistle, he wrote about the need of fellowship. Fellowship is having a common interest with others. In the scripture, the church shared faith in God. Being in his fellowship is the elimination of darkness. For God is a constant light of love. Being in him, we have the same qualities.

Light and dark are contrast in the natural and in the spiritual. Light(truth) is given to see and understand what is dark(sin). In God there is no darkness. His truth is received through his only begotten Son Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world”. The only way to identify sins, weaknesses, and shortcomings is through the light he gives in his word.

If we say that we have no sin, we make God a liar. God knows all things and he reveals that which is sin, contrary to him. He does not condemn us to judgment, Instead, he calls us into his fellowship. In our Father, there is love, hope, forgiveness and all that encompasses his righteousness. In Jesus, we confess our sins and repent to refrain from the temptation of darkness. Being with God the Father and Jesus the Savior, gives us the unmovable foundation of a standard of righteousness, the only way to have true fellowship.
