Sermon Take Away: “In Spirit and In Truth”

John 4:24 ; Exodus 32:19; Acts 17

God is very much involved in the affairs of this world.  His presence is in every living person because he is gives us the breathe of life. However, many refuse to acknowledge him.  Why do we suffer when God can immediately deliver us?  He wants us to see him in all things.  Realize that “the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us”.   He has the power to still sustain us, even in difficult moments.

The woman at the well was stuck in a tradition of where to worship God.  Jesus came along and enlighten her that God is not found in a certain place.  He is worshipped in spirit and in truth.  His spirit is not tangible. He is seen by faith. There is a resistance to acknowledge the power of God and that he is constantly doing something for us. He is aware of prayer requests. It is not so much about what we do, it is what God does.  We must give God his credit, his praise.

Genesis tells us that God is the Creator of time.  In 7 days, his authority was made known. Time is still in his hands.   Some things we just have to leave alone, keep calling on him, and trust in his will.    This is how we worship him in spirit and truth.

The people of Israel would often surrender to graven images, something that they could see or touch. They had come accustomed to the images of Egypt.  While Moses was in consultation with God, they were weary and made a molten calf to worship.  They forgot how God delivered them through the Red Sea and the enemies were drowned.  In God, we don’t have statues or graven images, we must accept his presence in spirit.  He is always present and his work is always in action.

While in Athens, Apostle Paul saw that the people were not familiar with the God that they worshipped.  He made it clear that the unknown God was the Creator of heaven and earth.  Even the most educated person can lack the simple knowledge that God is above all things.  You can’t see him or touch him.  He is seen and felt through faith.  “And ye shall seek me, and find me me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”

Somewhere in our faith walk, we must accept that God is still in charge of all things.  He knows all things and there is nothing that he cannot do. But he gets pleasure to hear from his people. This is how we show faith that he is. He is not far from you.  Worship him in testimony of who he is. Right where you are, you will find the spirit of our God.
