Sermon Take Away “Joy From God”

John 15 &16; Hebrews 12; Psalm 30

We are still learning in the grace of God. We will have up and down moments. But He gives us so much, including joy. Many people have lost hope and see know good picture. Joy and happiness are different. Happiness is an emotion experienced in the moment. It is more of a response to something good happening. Whereas joy dwells deep within the soul, something from God. It is not based on something good happening. It is the fruit of the spirit that remains through all of our experiences.

To have joy, we must do the right things of God. In John 15, Jesus said “if ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love….These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.” Outside of Christ there is no joy. Joy is a trust in him at all times. His joy is what gives us hope in times of sorrows. The guidance of doing right is given in the commandments. This makes our joy full. He wants us to be joyful and happy of all good things, not to drown in sorrow. He gave us Jesus Christ.

“And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you gain, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.” We know he shall return again to receive his people at his second coming, but now we shall see again. In times of sorrow, we turn to him. So yes, he sees us again. When you remember what Jesus did and does, you will return to him and your heart will rejoice in his goodness. King Nebuchadnezzar was pagan worshipper, but God helped him to see his faults. He repented and rejoiced in giving glory God.

What did Jesus do for us? While he carried the cross, he saw the future, which gave him joy. Jesus is our mediator before the Father. Isn’t that joy? To know that he is looking out for you. What about David? He always extolled God. Throughout the Psalms, he remembered the mercies, love and forgiveness of God. Our mind has the ability to absorb information. He had many sorrows. But he knew “weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” All of the goodness of God will give us joy.
