The earthly ministry of Jesus Christ was very spiritual, powerful, and busy. Many people were saved and many doubted. His concern was for all people, but the twelve disciples were special to him. He knew that they would have to follow in his footsteps to point people to God through the salvation. One of his final messages was to “Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled”.
The last few hours prior to his arrest were spent in prayer, consolation, and teaching with disciples. He understood their confusion and disappointment in response to his words of leaving them. Even though they did not quite grasp that Jesus was God, Christ had loved them. They loved him and enjoyed his presence in their lives. The thought of not having him was in no doubt difficult. But Christ, knowing their thoughts told them not to be troubled. He knew that after his ascension, the twelve will have a clear understanding of who he was and would rejoice.
He spoke of the other Comforter, who would come and be with them. During the disciples time, Christ was the Comforter in the flesh to fulfill the will of his Father. He was crucified for ours sins. The gift of eternal life is promised through his redemption. He promised them that he would dwell with them and be in them. The Holy Spirit will give peace in times of uncertainty, understanding, direction and even conviction when you are wrong. The same power that Christ had with his disciples is the same power of the Holy Spirit.
The same words of comfort that Christ gave to the disciples are for us today. In this faith journey, he is with us. He is present to hear your praise, praise, and prayers. He is present to comfort and to guide you. He is present to forgive you and to lead you in the way of righteousness.
He reminded the twelve that he is the way to have the Father’s attention; truth is God’s standard of righteous; and life in the present and the eternal is only in the promises and comfort of being in Jesus Christ. The heart is where we hold emotions of fear, confusion, doubt. Christ commands that we have peace, joy, and faith in our heart and there will be no trouble.
