Psalm 121
King David wrote some very inspirational psalms. His writings were a profound expression of his experiences and faith in God. Through all of his troubles his love for God never waivered.
To lift up mine eyes indicates total dependence and trust in the omnipresence of God. His will is always at hand. He is above us in his heavenly throne and in all authority. In him, we have no fear of harm or the devise of the enemy. He neither slumbers nor sleep. He is always aware of our thoughts and actions. At his command his angels are there to protect us even from the sun and the moon, those things that we do not control.
In Luke 18, there is a parable about a woman who persistently went before a judge to be avenged of her adversary. The judge had no fear of man nor God; he just did his duty his way. But because she was so persistent, he gave the woman her request. In Psalm 121, David wrote of his total dependence on God. “My help cometh from the Lord”. Faithful and persistent must be our response with him. We can’t allow our sins, faults, failure or the negative influence of others to weaken our faith that God is forgiving, longsuffering, and merciful.
In God, we have an unmovable help, “The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth and even forever more”. There is no doubt that when all else fails, God will keep us until the day we are called into an eternal peaceful life with David and all the faithful men and women who kept their hearts aligned with the one living, holy, and righteous God. May this Psalm be an expression of our thoughts to God. “I will lift up mine eyes until the hills, from whence cometh my help”.
