Sermon Take Away: Look and Live

Scripture: Luke 19:1-10; Exodus 22:1

“And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” While on the cross, many had their eyes on Jesus. Many had heard about his authoritative teachings in the temple. That he had kept company will the poor and the sick, people that were rejected by the higher class people. Jesus had a divine mission to fulfill. To seek and save that which was lost.

When we Look & Live, we see Jesus in all his power and glory. In him, there is forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life. Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus himself. When you have an encountered with the Savior, your life should be positively different, that is if you are truly ready for a different life. The bible teaches that God knows our thoughts afar off. He knows what we think before we even form it into a sentence. Zacchaeus ran ahead of the crowd and climbed in a sycamore tree. It was there that Jesus looked and him. At that moment, Zacchaeus was saved.

There was nothing to block his view in the tree. When we come to Jesus, we must keep the way clear that nothing distracts us from believing in him. People will discourage you and will attempt to make you doubt. But with the working of faith and the Holy Spirit, you will see the power in Jesus to save.

Jesus told him to come down from tree because he had to abide at his house. With joy, Zaccheus connected with Jesus. Zaccheus saw the love of God in Jesus. He knew that he needed all that Christ offered. Jesus Christ came to seek and save that which is lost. In this scripture, he was passing through Jericho. In his travels from city to city, he taught, healed and encouraged many people. His name and his miraculous works were spoken of throughout the regions. “And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.”(Luke 4:14)

Zaccheus was familiar with the Mosaic laws of restitution. In his new spiritual relationship with God, not only did he want to be forgiven for his wrongs. But he wanted to make right all the wrongs he did to others. He was not buying his way out. He wanted to please God. When we do right by each other God is pleased.

Salvation is not be taken advantage of or lightly. Salvation is God’s gift to man to forgive sins. It is God’s way to bring man to a spirit of repentance, followed by a spirit of conversion. When we Look & Live, we will fully embrace the full package of what it means to be saved. Thank God for Jesus.
