Scripture: Mark 10:46-52; Lamentations 3:22,23
“Oh give thanks unto the Lord, for his mercies endureth forever.” The mercy of God is compassion and forgiveness. He does not condemn us as we deserve. Graciously, he pardons us. In the gospel of Mark, blind Bartimaeus cried out to Jesus, “Lord have mercy on me”.
The story of Bartimaeus tells of the need to request for mercy. At some point, he realized his need for forgiveness and what he needed was in Jesus. The health of our soul is very important. The Spirit of the Lord lives in our soul, which will be required of us when Christ returns. His cry for mercy was followed by his request to heal his eyes. The mercies of God will take us into eternal life, as we remember to keep hold on things that are eternal. To earnestly request mercies demonstrates humility and acknowledges the power of God.
So many times lives have been spared and prayers answered because of the mercy of God. If we would take the time to meditate on his goodness, we would be overwhelmed that many times, it was all his mercy. That is a rejoicing time!
In addition, to seeking the mercies of God, we must call on Jesus. Glory is given to God when we give reverence to his Son, who gave his life for the sins of the world. It is only through Christ will we have the peace that the world will not give to us. Peace is to live in the harmony of his will, even through the challenges of life. While we are calling Jesus, he hears us. Jesus called Bartimaeus to come and asked him what could he do for him. It was then that he asked to receive his sight. He was forgiven and he was healed because of his faith.
Mercy is unmerited favor of God. God has not dealt with us or rewarded us according to our faults. Mercy is not anything that we get on our own. Graciously, God gives it to us and gives us the opportunity to repent and to commit our lives to him. “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.”
