Sermon Take Away: “Power in Prayer”

Scripture: Matthew 6:9-13 ; Luke 11:1-4

Prayer is our lifeline to connect to God, who is our source of power. Prayer is a way to place God first. Prayer is the breath of the soul. It is how we receive spiritual power. Prayer brings the heart into immediate contact with the Chief Cornerstone of our salvation and strengthens the very core of our life in Christ. The power is God himself.

The prayers of Jesus and the disciples were totally different. Jesus disciples requested to be taught to pray as John the Baptist taught his followers. Jesus prayer to the Father was personal to him.

Jesus’ prayer is referred to as the Lord’s Prayer. He was in deep sorrow, as he made his petition to the Father. He was about to give his life for the sins of the world. Because he trusted in the Father, he was very comfortable to admit his troubled feelings. Just perhaps there was another way to save man. Christ approached the throne of God three times for the same request. However, at the end of his prayer, he trusted in God’s will. The persistent prayer of Christ confirms that it is acceptable to remain before God. He cares very much about our sorrows. Even if God’s will remain the same, he knows that we believe that he has the power to intervene in any situation.

Jesus taught The Disciple Prayer. It is a pray for any believer which covers our daily needs. In this prayer, the disciple or believer (1) acknowledges who God is (2) identifies his domain (3) recognize his authority in the natural and fleshy earth (4) know the need to forgive (5) request his protection from evil and (6) gives reverence to his power of all things.

Jesus knew what we would need. The disciple prayer gives all attention to our heavenly Father and our need for his immediate presence.
