Scripture: Acts 16:16-40; Psalm 147:1

Praise is an act of expressing adoration and honor to God. Nothing changes who he is. No situation governs how we praise him. Praise is due him because he is God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth. The Creator of you and me.

Believers praise God through all situations, good and bad. It is something that comes natural from us. “For praise is comely.” We were made to praise God. It is doing those challenging times, that we really find out how we trust in him. Paul and Silas were taken into prison because they openly rebuked the spirit of divination practiced by a certain damsel. The master of the damsel opposed the teachings of Paul because their financial gains from the soothsaying was gone and they did not agree with their teachings.

Either Paul or Silas were worried or feared for their lives. Instead, they do what people of faith are commanded to do, pray and praise. Prayer and praise directs our heart and mind to God alone. It is by his mercies and his amazing grace, we are delivered. Our trials and victories not only benefit us, but those around us. Paula and Silas prayed and praised openly, calling on the name of Jesus. The keeper of the prison asked the life changing question “What must I do to be saved?” Paul responded, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

It is in this powerful teaching, we learn that praise is a continuous flow that comes from within. When you need God the most, praise him with a song.
