Sermon Take Away: Redeeming the Time

Scriptures: Ephesians 5:16-20-; James 4:14

Time is a valuable commodity. We can’t move time backward, forward or stop it. The God of the Heavens and the earth is in full control of time. Time is a morning gift from God. Every morning we are granted new mercies, an opportunity to do better. Each day is day to seek God. To pray for his forgiveness and power of our lives.

The Apostle Paul wrote “redeeming the time, because the days are evil”. Redeem means to buy back or to repurchase. Redeeming the time means that we make the best of time, of our life. Make a plan that will work for the betterment of our lives and the lives of others. We are not to live like there is no Savior or no hope of eternal life. But we should focus on plans that will help us to get closer to the Lord Jesus and plans that will help others see him. The days are evil. Each day brings it forms of troubles and temptations. To be prepared, we must be spiritually sound to respond.

While seeking God with our whole heart, mind, and strength, we will become wise and understand his will. God’s will is revealed in his word by his Holy Spirit. Our mind must be kept clear and attentive. Drunkenness is not acceptable. To much wine distorts the mind, which leads to ungodly behavior. Instead of excessive wine, the Apostle encourages to be filled with the Spirit. The Spirit will minister good thoughts, guide us in our decisions and way of living. Psalms, hymns and spiritual songs will make melody in our hearts to the Lord.

How we choose to spend our time is so important. Tomorrow is not promised to no one. James refer to life as vapor, that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. In our appointed time of life, we have the opportunity to choose salvation in Jesus Christ. In him, we believe in the gift of eternal life. Our life is pattern to become Christ-like, living to live again. This is why time is so important. In redeeming the time, salvation is it. Thank God for time.

We become filled with the Spirit when we:

  1. Confess our sins. We must realize our need for forgiveness.

  2. Surrender. We can’t hide from God. We must give up all things that separate us from him. Believers are encouraged not to be conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the rending of our mind.(Romans 12:2)

  3. The word of God dwells in us. Every word of God is cherished. It is the faith in his word that saves us.

  4. Empty self. We can’t save ourselves. Take out or destroy all things that separate us from the power of God. Don’t give in to self-will that will deny God’s will.

Redeeming the time because the days are evil is very important thought to keep. We can’t make up for loss time, for mistakes, for bad decisions and the such. But right now, we can make a change for the best. It does not have to be a big change. Plan to make small changes in your life. Changes that will guide you to make the best of your time, that your life will be good, acceptable and perfect in the will of God. Take the time to give thanks to our Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Make your tomorrow today.
