Sermon Take Away: “That Living Water”

Thank God that Jesus never fails.   He was born into this world to save humanity from the destruction of sins. Before his death he taught very valuable and life changing lessons. He is the answer for all things. Jesus Christ is that living water.

Jesus was missioned driven. His ministry was for all who would listen, believe and accept. As he made his way to Samaria, he met a woman at the well and requested for a drink of water. But the woman questioned Jesus because the Jews and the Samaritans had a history of animosity. A portion of the Israel population had broken away from the law and married people from Samaria, producing a mixed population. Israel (Jews) wanted to hold on to their true heritage identity. Until Jesus came along, the Jews and the Samaritans had limited dealings with each other.

The well water served its purpose but she would have to keep returning for refill. Jesus offered living waters, a constant flow of the Holy Spirit. It is the indwelling of the Spirit working in the lives of believers. Just as the natural waters have nutrients, his living waters have sustaining spiritual nutrients. Wisdom, pure, peaceable, and gentleness are all the spiritual nutrients that sustain us in our faith living.

After Jesus explained the sustaining power of the living water, the woman believed and went to tell others of the living waters. He promised “blessed are they who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.” When you call on Jesus he will give you contentment at that call. We may have our concerns, but we must believe what God has says. His living water is revealed in his written word, which will keep you going. There is always something in the word that we need.

“I Thirst” were the last few words from Christ. Up to his death, he was telling us that even at the time of our last breath or when we are not sure of an outcome, call on God. His living water is a stream of mercies and grace. It will give you peace like nothing else. No longer did the woman at the well live in the past. She received the words of Christ and the gift of salvation, clinging to her future. The living water will change us from corruption to incorruption and to mortal to immortality.
