God the Father has ordained from the beginning of life men and women into his ministry. It is one of the most honorable services that one can give. The church at Corinth had a very beautiful , yet stern letter written by the Apostle Paul to address the greatest love, the driving force in ministry.
The saints in Corinth had a lack of understanding of spiritual gifts and used them not to benefit the ministry. They were gentile unbelievers who came from an ungodly environment. They had to be taught that God ordain gifts to men and women to (1) perfect the saints, (2) for the work of the ministry, and (3) to edify the body of Christ. Men and women are elevated in the ministry to follow the works of Jesus, to teach God’s word of love, repentance, and eternal life. They are called to live and teach the gospel of Christ. The church ministry benefits when Christ is preached. People accept salvation and all the glory is given to God the Father.
The greatest of all gifts is charity known as love. God is love. I Corinthians 13 is often read at weddings and for scripture readings to speak of love. But love as referenced in the ministry is far the greatest of all. Love in the ministry has an eternal life for many who love the Lord. Love in the ministry is expressed in gentleness, meekness, and compassion that work that we do is not in vain.
There are four teachable characteristics of love: (1) love beareth all things – it takes on the needs of others (2) love believeth all things – it applies and embraces the promises of God and trust him for all things (3) love hopeth all things – flows from belief and becomes a vision of the promises of God (4) love endureth all things – a made up mind not to give up, but hold fast in the power of Christ. In this highest form of love, it is no longer what we want but love helps us to reach out to others without expecting any personal favors or self grandeur. In the ministry there are the gifts of healing, miracles, prophecy, unknown tongues, interpretation of tongues just a few. Some are called to pastor, minister, teach, heal and more. But in the minisity we all must work as one body for one purpose. Love is the binding and compelling force to function in unity with the Holy Spirit of Christ.
Without the genuine love for God, an ordination is just a service. But thank God, in the true love of God, the ordination is the beginning of a blessed ministry to the working of salvation. All done to give glory and thanks to our God the Father. Who is the supreme being of love!
