Sermon Take Away: “This Is How It Is”

Ecclesiastes 12:13,14; Matthew 22:37-40

The anointed prophets and teachers in the bible were very direct and clear in their messages to the people, as inspired by the Holy Spirit.  King Solomon, the son of David, was an exceptional communicator with the word of God.  He requested that God give him wisdom to rule his people and it was granted.

The book of Ecclesiastes is a writing of inspiration and advice on life.  His teachings on vanity, satisfaction in labor, a time for all things, the end of life, and more are still relevant for today.  As he concludes this book with “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter“,  he  directs attention to what really matters.

“Fear God and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”  It won’t be understood that time is in God’s hand nor that there is an end of life, unless there is a fear of God. To fear God is to acknowledge his presence and his authority of all things.  His commandments are central in the lives of believers.  His commandments are the guide as to how to love him and how to love each other.

The word is not intended to be ambiguous.   But it is concise and clear, when we rely on the power of the Holy Spirit.   The same message that King Solomon gave to his followers, the people of Israel, applies to us.  We must fear God and keep his commandments.  “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”  This is how it is.   At the coming of Christ, there will be no place to hide, nor will there be any excuses for not accepting Christ as your personal Savior and Lord.  He will bring every good and evil deed into judgement.  Our lives are on a 24/7 recorder.  The recording will be a witness to our life in eternity or damnation.   What Solomon did in this writing is direct all things to our relationship with God.  This is how it is.
