Scriptures: Matthew 5, John 8:31-31, Galatians 3:24, John 14:5-6
The Holy Bible is very important to believers in Jesus Christ. See, the Bible is our B.I.B.L.E (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth). Everything we need to know is in the Bible. From what we should eat, how we should dress, how to be saved, how to increase our faith, how the world, man, and creatures were created, to even how the world will end. All of your questions can be answered in the Word of God.
When it comes to the traditions of the world today such as holidays, we must remind ourselves to return to the Word of God and ask ourselves specific questions. Why do I celebrate this holiday or do this annual or monthly tradition? Is it proclaimed in the Word of God to do by God or Jesus Christ? Is this work and this tradition in vain?
Take the Pharisees for instance. They were priests of high authority in the temples of Jerusalem who were supposed to have full knowledge of the Mosaic Laws, Sacrificial Laws, and God’s Laws. They were anointed to spread this knowledge of salvation to others, but instead they kept it amongst themselves and for other Jews. They also fell into a common practice of following manmade traditions they added onto the Laws. Instead of following the Laws to save people and to please God, they put themselves first and grew blind of their true purpose and mission. This caused them to missed Jesus when he came because their minds were in the prophesies but not their hearts.
Following traditions, no matter what they are, can lead to forgetting about the main purpose we were created. To serve God and God only. Take time to study, research, and ask questions on why you follow traditions of the world. Are you doing it to please God or yourself? Many traditions in the world are to spread love, joy, and happiness, which there is nothing wrong with doing, but make sure to check the foundation of that tradition. Was it originated to serve God or serve man?
The Word of God tells us that we can celebrate Jesus’ birth, his death and resurrection, and his position on the right hand of God every day. God does not require money, gifts, or materialistic things to serve him. He only needs your heart. The Word of God tells us to remember. Remember is a strong word, it relates to our memory. When you forget something, you try and remember what that was. God wants us to remember daily about who we serve and why, and why we do the things we do. The traditions of the world can redirect the meaning and purpose of the sacrifice Jesus had done into monetary gain rather than spiritual gain.
So, when you get the time, revisit why you follow certain traditions. It’s okay to do it for joy, love, family, friends, and positive purposes, but is God involved? Does it reflect Jesus Christ to the fullness? What was this tradition founded upon and its origin, and its history? The Word of God tells believers of Jesus that worldly traditions are not that important, especially when celebrating Jesus is geared around certain months of the year rather than all year around.
Serve God all year around and be blessed in the name of Jesus. And remember ask questions and seek the Holy Bible for your answers.
