Scripture: Matthew 25:14-30
Jesus Christ gave his life so that we may have eternal life. Our finished end is to hear him welcome us and say “Well done, thy good and faithful servant.”
The inspired writers of the gospel of Jesus Christ recorded his many parables. He used parables to give a moral or spiritual teaching using events or things that were natural. In this parable the man gave his servants five, two and one talents. The talents were given to them to use for his benefit. He expected that they would make some usury on the talents. The day of reckoning came and the man visited his servants. The servant who was given five talents made five more talents. The servant who was given two talents made two more talents. The man was pleased and said “Well done, thou good and faithful servant“.
But the man of his servants was not pleased with the servant who was given one talent. That servant buried his talent in fear of losing it and he heard that his lord was a hard man. He did nothing with what he was given. The lord of the servants called him wicked and slothful. Wicked because he did not believe and slothful because he did not make a plan.
The spiritual message is this parable is that God requires us to do something with what he gives us. It does not matter how much or little we have. We must pursue to be wise, make a plan, trust in God and do something beneficial with what he gives us. The most important servant duty is to give testimony to salvation that is in Christ.
At time, you may feel like you have nothing or you are not good enough to do something for our Lord. Our service to him counts. In doing service for the benefit of others, we are doing the will of God.
The servants who were found faithful over a few things were found worthy to become ruler of many things. The servants did not hold back a portion of their talents. Each had a choice as to what to do. They chose to give their all. Isn’t that amazing! Jesus wants us to give him our all.
What do you want the Lord to say may sound simple. Of course, we all want him to be very please with us and say “Well done”. But in thought it is very personal and it keeps us in prayer for the continual guidance of the Holy Spirit. In doing any service for God, we trust in our faith to keep moving forward, trusting in the power of Christ in our lives. There is a glorious life after death for the righteous.
