Acts 16:25-31; I John 5:10-12
What must I do to be saved? It is the message to keep in the frontline in church ministries. As the world faces so many crises, masked in so much wickedness, it would appear that there is no hope for the world. But we can rejoice because the earth belongs to God. We can take peace to know that there is nothing going on that he does not know about. He has all things in his power and he has a will to be fulfilled in us.
The Apostles were put in jail because they taught the salvation of Jesus Christ and they were accused of the business decline with those who worked in the spirit of divination. While going through their trial, they still remained full of the joy of the Lord. What a way to remain, when you are dealt with unjustly. In the jail, an angel visited them. The chains were released and the gate was opened. Paul and Silas walked out. This left the keeper in shock and fear for his life. But Paul cried to him not do himself no harm. In response the keeper asked, “What must I do to be saved”?
The disturbing news all around us is a wake up call to come to the deliverance of Christ. The world and local leaders don’t have the answers for crisis that are spiritual. Creating and changing laws is not the answer to solve the problems. The problems of the world are far deeper, they are spiritual. People of faith (the church) are spiritual and we must continue to trust, pray, and believe. It is by the Spirit of God that he reveals that the problems in our families, communities, states, and the world is a spiritual battle between good and evil. Jesus Christ is the only one that can deliver from the crisis that continues to get worse. He is the conqueror of the spiritual destroyer, Satan.
The message of salvation is so imperative in this time. It is the most precious gift from God that is received in faith. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Humans are the most intelligent creatures who were given a mind and a heart to reason and to love. In our own lives, we see the need of mercies and grace, that God gives to us through Jesus Christ.
Things will get worse before they get better. God has given us everything in Jesus Christ. It is up to us to believe, to seek for his mercies, and to let others know about the answer for all the evil that is present. The devices of the devil are to kill, steal, and destroy. Jesus is present to save us and to protect us.
The magistrates thought they had power over Paul and Silas. They failed to realized that there was a higher power than the Romans. Salvation in Jesus Christ is real and it is required to make it to heaven. It was their salvation that delivered them. It will be our salvation in Jesus that will deliver us. Thank God for Jesus!
