It is so easy to give into false worship. It is not only the literal worship of idols. It is denying the very presence of God. As many take inventory of the past year and look forward to the new year, this is the time to consider What Spirit Are You Following.
There may be times when God is denied unintentionally. The world has conformed itself to accept that there is a higher being and that there are spirits. But God is just not any spirit. He is the God, the Creator of all things. Artists write and sing songs that imply God and Jesus, but some reject to directly call their names. This is how people become subjected to the other spirits.
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” Either we are a believer in God or self. Many believe that they do by their own strength and power. But people are the creatures that were made by the Creator. He is the higher power that gives and sustain our lives. God is the good loving spirit. There are spirits that teach or act outside of the true Spirit. We must not be ashamed to speak of his name, to acknowledge that he is the giver of life, health, and spirit. When we speak of the saving of our soul, we speak of Jesus. We can’t save ourselves.
The other spirits influence a good feeling as directed by the world standards. But we want to make sure that we follow the standards of God. Our feeling of good is because we are saved by the blood of Jesus Christ. When Christ is denied, we pull away from the will of God. “Jesus saith, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. ”
We don’t want to lose who he is every year in songs and entertainment that make hint of the living God. Speak and identify that God is God and Jesus is Jesus. It is up to the believers to hold up the banner of Jesus. There is nothing that you can do alone to save your soul. You need the power of Christ. As you engage in things of the world, “in the world, but not of the world” be mindful not to allow anything to weaken your faith in the power and presence of God the Almighty. Make sure that you are following the Spirit of God.
“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” It is God who grants us mercy because he has not dealt with us the way we deserve. He gives us an opportunity to seek his forgiveness and his love. He never gives up on us. This is the Spirit that we follow. God gives you a choice to choose to follow him through the faith of Jesus. God gives you year after year. Worship God the Father and Jesus the Savior. As the clock continues to tick and turn, make them your choice. Identify yourself with the right Spirit.
