Sermon Take Away: “When You Don’t Know What to Say”

In those time of trouble, sometimes you don’t know what to say to God. Thoughts of how and what to pray rush through our minds. In Luke 18, the message of the parable is to stay before God and do not overly worry or faint. Pray without ceasing. When you don’t know what to say, his word gives us direction of how to express ourselves to God.

Take comfort, he knows all about us. Simply call on Jesus. He will read in between the lines and will know your unsettled thoughts.

Take time to mediate in the word. Give God praise. There is no set way to talk to God. But faith is required. He lone is able to search our minds. In our failures or successes, he still knows all. When you don’t know what to say, just speak the word. He can fill in the blanks and he will deliver us.

We serve a God who knows the desires of our hearts. “Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.” There is nothing going on in our lives that he does not know about. He promised to take care of us, if you keep his covenant. He created every part of us. His hands are upon you. Just to know that he is that close to us. He will never forsake us, he is not going anyway. Don’t stop praying, when you don’t know what to say, the most simple words He understand. Don’t allow your insecurities to stop you from communicating with the One who wants to hear from you.

In Christ, we become unified in God. “One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” We are given grace, his unmerited favor. He grants us time to learn from mistakes and to repent. The love of God and Christ is present in the Comforter. Christ did not abandon us, he gave us the presence of God. From the very beginning God wanted to be with us. When you don’t know what to say, remember his presence is with you.

Hope is what we need. without hope there is is no faith. Hope is looking into the future, with optimism, always look forward to good things. Faith keeps us moving with our hope. It keeps hopes alive. Jesus is that hope. Without hope, you will worry and doubt. In hope, his Spirit will make intercession for us.

Remain patient and wait for the will of God. When we take charge we can mess up. But in Christ, “For All things works together for good to them who love God, who are called according to his purpose.” When you don’t know what say, love God. He knows best. In the book of Ephesians, the armor of God is our spiritual warfare. The armor is held together by prayer. Without prayer the armor will fall apart. A soldier in the battle knows his order because of his contact with his commander. So it is in the spiritual. We know the will of God when we remain in contact with Jesus, our commander. He knows the best direction to follow.

When you don’t know what to say or how to pray, Jesus taught the disciples prayer, which covers many of our requests. After you have secured yourself in place to pray, in Matthew 6:9-15, the disciples prayer (1) acknowledges who and where God is; (2) gives reverence to his will (3) request is made for daily needs (4) forgiveness is asked (5) request for deliverance from evil (6) honor to God. Glory is given to him in the beginning and end of prayer.

When you don’t know what to say, let Jesus search your heart. Living in the faith is a learning journey. Keep calling Jesus! That says a lot.
