Jesus Christ carried the burden of the world to make us free from the burden of sin. The night of his passion, his accusers verbally and physically abused him. While making his way to Calvary, he was tired and weak, and could not carry his heavy cross. Simon a Cyrenian was travelling through Jerusalem to take care of some business, but he was stopped and "compelled to bear his cross". He was not a second early or late, but came at the appointed time to take up the cross of Jesus.
No doubt Simon heard of the teachings and great work of Jesus in his travels. As we take up our cross, a trial or problem that we prefer not to have, we have it so that we can see Jesus. If he removed somethings from us, we won't trust in him. Instead, we would trust in our own ability to overcome. "And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me." When you give up yourself and put your faith in his saving grace, you take up his cross.
Simon saw love, strength, and hope in the tired eyes of the Savior. He came face to face with an innocent man, who had a mission to complete for his heavenly Father. He had become the lamb of God to take away the sins of the world. It is no mistake of where you may be and the people who are in your life. Believe that God has a purpose to fulfill in you. He has done something mighty to bring us to the cross. Someone that was not apart of the crowd was chosen to meet the Savior face to face. It was Simon's time to accept the Savior.
We do not bear our cross alone. Christ has all powers to call out angels from heaven, to rebuke the enemy in this earth, and power to subdue things under the earth. God has given him the right hand, which is the authority of all things. The joy of the cross is to see Jesus. The Holy Spirit reminds us that we are not alone.
Every morning is the opportunity to get things right with God. Every day is an opportunity to get things right with each other. Encourage each other in this journey of faith. Talk about the power of Christ blood that saves us. To keep him in the center of our lives, will help us to cling to his cross and to bear our own cross. At times, we may feel like God has forgotten us. He promised to always be with us. Keep all things in the most capable hands of our Savior, Jesus Christ. He saves you with love. Jesus alone will help us to take up our cross.
