"The Day of The Lord"

"For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the lord so cometh as a thief in the night." The day of the lord will be a time of exceeding joy for his people. The bible prophecies tells us about that day, also called the second coming of Jesus Christ. Salvation in Jesus gives us the reward of eternal life. The world will not look for him because they do not believe in the only God Almighty who is the Creator of all things. Instead, they choose to worship people who have no power, objects that have no life, and things that they can create, touch or control.

His people are preparing for his coming by way of prayer, bible studies, and a made up mind to trust in his will. His Spirit will give them understanding when it comes to the day of the Lord. "Seek the Lord, while he may be found, call upon his name while he is near." When we seek him with all of our heart, we are promised to find him. For he knows the heart of every man.

"The day of the lord so cometh as a thief in the night." In the analogy of a thief, he unexpectedly takes something that does not belong to him, he comes unannounced and operates in the dark. No one prepares for a thief. The message of a thief in the night is a warning that many people will not be ready because they live in spiritual darkness. They do not believe in the fullness of God's love. The denial and refusal of salvation and repentance is a sign of spiritual darkness. So they will not be ready for the day of the Lord.

Many will be deceived to believe in a secret rapture and that the people of God will be taken from the time of trouble. God has no reason to come in secret. The earth and everything in it belongs to him. He will not take us from trouble, but he will take us through the time of trouble. "In the world ye shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."

Christ as a thief means that the exact day or date of the Lord is not known. It is given in prophecies, concealed in the sign of the times. The saved believers, who are the children of light, will not be in taken by surprise. There will be no darkness in them because they remained faithful to the will of God by his grace and mercies. His coming has always been anticipated. The earlier church, in the Apostle Paul's time, had expected his coming then. But he explained that it was not the time and that many would be sleep at his coming.

There will be many false teachings of a second chance, after death. We only have our present life to get ourselves ready for Christ. The day of the Lord will put an end to all sin. It will be the beginning of an eternal life with God our heavenly Father and Jesus Christ our blessed Savior, and an innumerable number of righteous people.

In the middle of all the devastating trouble that will come upon the earth, a word of comfort is interjected in the seven last plagues chapter, Revelation 16. "Behold, I come as a thief, Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame." For his people who kept their faith during the intense time of trouble, they shall see him in peace. When the Holy Spirit fully reveals the sign of these times, we won't be confused, deceived nor fearful. But we will know that he is coming!
