“Respond don’t React”
(Luke 18:18-27)
A certain rich ruler asked Jesus, what shall he do to inherit eternal life? Jesus said to him you know the commandments: do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, do not to lie and to honor father and mother. These are the last six commandments of God on how to love each other. The ruler loved God, but perhaps he lacked love for others. The ruler reacted and said he had kept these commandments from his youth up. What he needed to do was to take time to think about Jesus’s reply and then respond. In given considerable thought he would have considered his short-comings with others. In summary, the commandments are all about love. Christ is not concerned about our income status or what we give. He looks at the spirit in which we give. Just how far are we willing to go for God and for others. Jesus told the ruler to sell all that he had, give it to the poor and then follow him. The ruler was very sorrowful. Don’t leave Jesus being sorrowful. Take time to think about what he commands of you and then respond with a plan to truly follow him.
